Dr. Silver Mugisha Recognized for Transformative Contributions to St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Parish

In a notable event, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere of Kampala commended Dr. Silver Mugisha, the Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), for his exceptional contributions to St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Parish. The commendation took place during the parish’s 10th-anniversary celebration, marking a decade of significant growth and development, largely attributed to Dr. Mugisha’s efforts.
Dr. Mugisha, who served as the parish treasurer, played a pivotal role in spearheading the construction of a 1000-seater church. His commitment extended beyond financial oversight; he personally oversaw the construction of the church's wall fence, protecting the parish land from encroachment. These efforts ensured the physical and spiritual expansion of the parish, leading to increased participation in baptisms, confirmations, and holy matrimony.
Archbishop Ssemogerere praised Dr. Mugisha for his leadership and dedication, which have been instrumental in mobilizing resources and inspiring the parish community. His transformative approach began with identifying pressing challenges and rallying the community to address them collaboratively. “Our approach was to create a solution by first identifying a problem. At the time, we lacked sufficient funds, so we started with what little we had and created a sense of urgency. As we began working, people were inspired to contribute because they saw progress being made,” Dr. Mugisha explained.
Dr. Mugisha's connection to St. Charles Lwanga Mutundwe Catholic Parish is deeply personal. He revealed that his journey with NWSC began at this very parish a decade ago, marking the start of his enduring commitment to its development. Accompanied by his wife, Hon Annet Katusiime Mugisha, Dr. Mugisha emphasized the power of collaboration and conscious leadership in building vibrant and inclusive communities. He highlighted NWSC's commitment to community engagement and corporate social responsibility, aiming to create lasting impacts through various partnerships.
The celebration also saw the presence of the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya, who echoed the Archbishop’s sentiments. She lauded Dr. Mugisha and his wife for their substantial contributions to development projects in their home district of Bushenyi and in Kampala, underscoring the significant impact of their efforts. The IGG further demonstrated her support by contributing towards the completion of the church project.
Fr. Remigius Semujju, the Parish Priest, recounted the parish’s growth, attributing much of its success to Dr. Mugisha’s unwavering support. The parish now includes four sub-parishes and several income-generating projects, a testament to the comprehensive development strategy adopted under Dr. Mugisha’s guidance. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Area MP Aloysius Mukasa, reflecting the broad recognition of Dr. Mugisha’s contributions.
As part of the celebration, NWSC’s Nateete Branch set up a mobile help desk to address customer concerns, showcasing the corporation’s commitment to customer service. This gesture further exemplified NWSC’s philosophy of integrating community welfare into its operational framework.
In his concluding remarks, Archbishop Ssemogerere announced that Pope Francis has declared May 26 as Children’s Day, to be celebrated annually within the church. He urged parents to be responsible in raising their children and emphasized the importance of safe driving as children return to school.
Dr. Mugisha’s recognition is not just a testament to his leadership within NWSC but also a celebration of his profound impact on community development and faith-based initiatives. His story is a powerful example of how clear leadership and community collaboration can drive significant, positive change.
