Bududa, Uganda - June 11, 2024 - Locals from Bududa district and surrounding areas have every reason to celebrate. In a significant move to improve infrastructure and boost economic activities, the rehabilitation of the 9.6-kilometer Bududa-Busano road was officially launched today. This long-awaited project aims to reconnect Bududa and surrounding areas, which have suffered from poor road conditions for decades.
The launch ceremony was attended by various leaders and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of this project for the local community. Africano Aharikundira, the Bududa Resident District Commissioner, highlighted that the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) will oversee the works, with a budget allocation of Shs1.6 billion. He assured the public that actual construction activities will commence next week and urged residents to support and cooperate with the project.
"The rehabilitation of this road is crucial for the development of our district. It will not only enhance accessibility but also stimulate economic activities by facilitating the transportation of goods and services," said Aharikundira.
Patrick Nabutanyi Kibeti, the acting information officer for Bududa district, confirmed that Kama Contractors have been awarded the contract to execute the project. The contractor is expected to complete the rehabilitation within two months. Kibeti emphasized the need for adherence to the timeline and quality standards.
Milton Kamoti, the Bududa District LCV Chairperson, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of delivering high-quality work. He urged local leaders and residents to monitor the progress and report any issues with the contractor to ensure taxpayer money is utilized effectively.
"The successful completion of this road will greatly benefit our communities. It is vital that we hold the contractor accountable to maintain high standards. This road will serve as a critical link for our people, particularly farmers," Kamoti stated.
John Baptist Nambeshe, the Member of Parliament for Manjiya County in Bududa district, also addressed the gathering. He underscored the road's significance in facilitating agricultural activities. The fertile soils of Bududa are conducive to farming, but poor road conditions have hindered farmers from transporting their produce to markets in Mbale town and surrounding areas.
"Bududa's mountainous terrain and fertile lands make it an agricultural hub. However, our farmers have struggled to get their products to market due to impassable roads. This rehabilitation will be a game-changer, improving their livelihoods and boosting the local economy," Nambeshe remarked.
The rehabilitation of the Bududa-Busano road marks a pivotal moment for the district, promising to enhance connectivity and economic prospects. As the project kicks off next week, residents and leaders alike are optimistic about the positive impact this development will bring to their communities.
