The eagerly awaited FUFA Super 8 tournament kicks off today, Friday, August 2, 2024, with defending champions BUL FC taking on Maroons FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende. The Eastern Giants, as BUL FC is popularly known, are ready to make a strong start in their campaign to retain the title they clinched last season.
BUL FC’s victory last year, sealed with a dramatic 3-2 win on penalties against URA FC at MTN-Lugogo Stadium, has set high expectations for this season. Head Coach Abbey Kikomeko is confident in his team’s ability to deliver yet another stellar performance.
"We face Maroons tomorrow in the FUFA Super 8, and as defending champions, we’re aware that this year’s edition is different, with a home-and-away basis and only two pitches, which negates the home advantage," said Coach Kikomeko. "We’re prepared, having trained for a few weeks. The players are ready and prepared to defend the trophy. They’re eager to play with all their heart and secure three points from Maroons."
Strengthened Squad
BUL FC has strengthened its squad with the signings of Bakali Magumba, Thomas Ochungo, Najib Fesali, Dickson Mataama, and Isaac Wagoina. These new additions are expected to bring fresh energy and skill to the team, adding to the depth and versatility that Coach Bogere seeks to leverage throughout the tournament.
Despite the absence of Douglas Muganga, who remains sidelined with a knee injury, the team is in high spirits. Defender Benon Tahomera expressed his optimism and readiness ahead of the clash. "We’re all prepared for tomorrow and ready to pick maximum points from Maroons while defending the trophy. We urge our fans to turn up in large numbers and rally behind us," said Tahomera.
The Challenge from Maroons FC
Maroons FC, on the other hand, are not to be underestimated. They come into the match with a squad that combines talent, experience, and youthful vigor. The team is eager to upset the defending champions and make a strong statement of their own in the opening match of the tournament.
The match promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams eager to make their mark. As the defending champions, BUL FC will be looking to start their campaign on a high note, while Maroons FC will aim to surprise their opponents and gain an early advantage in the tournament.
