Director General of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Flags Off Rotary Cancer Run in Entebbe
By John Kusolo
In a significant show of support for a noble cause, the Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, today flagged off Rotarians and well-wishers participating in the annual Rotary Cancer Run at the Mayor's Garden in Entebbe. The event, organized by the Entebbe Corridor Rotary Clubs, is part of a broader initiative led by the Rotary fraternity in Uganda to raise funds for the construction of Linear Accelerator Bunkers, a critical infrastructure for the treatment of cancer patients at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital.
During his address, Mr. Bamwesigye expressed deep gratitude to the Rotary leadership in Uganda for their unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer. He lauded the Uganda Rotary Cancer Program, which organizes these fundraising runs annually, highlighting its pivotal role in mobilizing resources for cancer treatment and awareness. The Director General emphasized that UCAA’s participation in the Cancer Run is aligned with the Authority’s policy of supporting and contributing to national causes that have a lasting impact on society.
The partnership between UCAA and the Rotary Clubs of the Entebbe Corridor is not a new development. Over the years, the Authority has collaborated with these clubs on various projects aimed at improving the well-being of the community. This ongoing relationship underscores UCAA’s dedication to corporate social responsibility, particularly in initiatives that address pressing health issues in Uganda.
Following the run, Mr. Bamwesigye presided over the prize-giving ceremony, where he presented awards to the winners of the different categories, including the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races. The event was marked by a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose, with participants from all walks of life coming together to contribute to the fight against cancer.
Mr. Bamwesigye’s active involvement in the Rotary Cancer Run demonstrates his personal commitment and that of UCAA to supporting health initiatives that benefit the broader Ugandan community. His leadership in such events not only elevates the profile of the UCAA but also inspires other organizations and individuals to contribute to causes that improve the lives of Ugandans.
The funds raised from this year’s Cancer Run will be channeled toward the construction of Linear Accelerator Bunkers at Nsambya Hospital, a project that will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to treat cancer patients. The Rotary Cancer Run, now a staple in Uganda’s calendar of charitable events, continues to gain momentum each year, thanks in part to the support of key partners like the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.
As the fight against cancer in Uganda continues, the contributions of organizations like UCAA and individuals like Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye will remain crucial. Their efforts not only provide much-needed financial support but also raise awareness and galvanize the community to take collective action against this devastating disease.
