Electoral Commission Extends National Voters Register Update to 17th February 2025 – Dr. Wasagali Sarah Kanaabi Urges Mbale City Residents to Participate

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has extended the deadline for the ongoing General Update of the National Voters Register to 17th February 2025, allowing eligible Ugandans more time to register, update their details, and transfer their voting locations ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

This update, which is in its 21st day, is a crucial exercise aimed at ensuring that every eligible Ugandan is included in the voters' register to participate in the upcoming elections. Dr. Wasagali Sarah Kanaabi, a prominent leader and aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale City (2026-2031), has called on all residents of Mbale City to take advantage of the extension and ensure their participation in the electoral process.

 Key Guidelines for the Voter Registration Update 

Dr. Wasagali emphasized the importance of following the Electoral Commission's guidelines during this exercise:

Register as a new voter – If you have never voted before, this is the opportunity to enroll in the voters' register.Apply to transfer your voting location – If you have relocated to a different area, you can apply to vote at a polling station closer to your new residence.

 Verify your voter details 

 – Already registered voters should visit their designated centers to confirm that their details, including names, date of birth, and polling station, are correct.Students previously registered by NIRA – Learners who were registered under the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) program must also register as voters and be assigned a polling station.

Dr. Wasagali stressed that voter registration is the foundation of a fair and inclusive electoral process. She urged all eligible voters, especially first-time voters, youth, and women, to participate actively.

"Your voter’s card is your voice. Without it, you cannot decide the future of Mbale City and Uganda at large. This extension is an opportunity to ensure that everyone who is eligible is registered and ready to vote in 2026," she remarked.

Dr. Wasagali further called on the people of Mbale City to locate the designated registration centers in their parishes and work with Uganda Electoral Commission officials to complete the process before the final deadline on 17th February 2025.
