FUFA Rolls Out Talent Discovery Initiative Through Grade 4 Scouting Courses

*By John Kusolo*

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced an ambitious plan to train and deploy at least one Grade 4 (G4) Football Scout in each district across Uganda. This initiative, aimed at unearthing and nurturing football talent at the grassroots, aligns with FUFA's Technical Master Plan for elite football talent development.

The Talent Identification initiative is backed by the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS), a global program designed to establish high-performance standards in talent development ecosystems.

*Four Fully Sponsored G4 Scouting Courses Scheduled*

To kickstart this initiative, FUFA will offer four fully sponsored G4 scouting courses across four FUFA Regional Football Associations. The regions and dates are as follows:

Kampala Region: 27th–28th November 2024

West Nile Region: 2nd–3rd December 2024

Western Region: 8th–9th December 2024

Buganda Region: 12th–13th December 2024

This structured rollout will provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to identify budding football talents in their respective districts. The courses will emphasize scouting best practices and align participants with international talent development standards.

*Eligibility and Application*

FUFA invites experienced football practitioners from these regions to apply for the limited slots available. The initiative prioritizes individuals with a strong football background who can contribute effectively to their district’s football ecosystem. Interested candidates can access the application form here.

In 2025, FUFA will extend the G4 scouting courses to the remaining FUFA Regional Football Associations, including North East, Eastern, Northern, and Kitara regions. This nationwide approach ensures that no district is left behind in the quest to discover and nurture Uganda’s footballing talents.

Talent identification

plays a pivotal role in FUFA's broader strategy to develop elite football players. By equipping local scouts with advanced skills, FUFA aims to create a robust pipeline of players who can compete at regional, national, and international levels.

Speaking about the initiative, FUFA officials emphasized its significance in building a high-performance culture within Uganda’s football development ecosystem. The courses are expected to lay the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive approach to football talent identification.

FUFA’s G4 scouting courses represent a significant step toward transforming Uganda’s football landscape. By harnessing grassroots talent through trained scouts in every district, the federation aims to build a strong and competitive national football framework.

Football enthusiasts and stakeholders are encouraged to support this groundbreaking initiative as FUFA continues to champion the growth of football in Uganda.
