Issac Kimaze Ssemakadde Takes Leave from Uganda Law Society Duties Due to Ill Health

Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde, the President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), has announced his decision to take a leave of absence from his official duties due to health concerns. The announcement, made through a public statement, highlights his need to prioritize personal well-being amidst the demanding responsibilities of his position.
In his statement, Ssemakadde expressed regret about his inability to continue participating in ULS activities that require his involvement. He stated:
"I regret to inform you of my ill-health. I have, effective today, cancelled all Uganda Law Society activities requiring my involvement and decided to commence leave until I feel better. I have briefed the Vice President Asiimwe Anthony about the situation. Please respect my privacy."
In light of Ssemakadde's leave, Vice President Asiimwe Anthony will step in to oversee the society's activities and ensure continuity in leadership. Ssemakadde’s message underscores the importance of a seamless transition and the society’s commitment to its members and ongoing initiatives. Asiimwe, known for his legal acumen and dedication to the rule of law, is expected to handle the responsibilities with competence during this interim period.
Ssemakadde’s leave comes at a critical time for the ULS, as the society continues to advocate for legal reforms, justice, and human rights in Uganda. His absence will undoubtedly be felt within the legal community, given his dynamic leadership and outspoken nature on key issues affecting the profession and the broader society.
However, the ULS is well-equipped to navigate this period of transition. With a robust leadership structure, the society is poised to maintain its momentum in addressing pressing legal and societal matters.
In his statement, Ssemakadde emphasized the need for privacy during this period. This highlights his desire to focus on recovery without external pressures. Colleagues and well-wishers have since extended their support, wishing him a swift recovery and commending his decision to prioritize health over work.
Ssemakadde has been a transformative figure in the Uganda Law Society. Known for his unwavering stance on human rights, accountability, and the rule of law, he has championed several initiatives that have elevated the legal profession in Uganda. His tenure has been marked by bold advocacy, fostering unity among members, and addressing challenges faced by lawyers in the country.
