Kiira Motors Corporation Delivers Eight New 8-Meter Kayoola EVS Buses, Elevating Uganda's Electric Vehicle Industry

Jinja, Uganda – June 6, 2024 – Kiira Motors Corporation marked a significant milestone today with the delivery of eight 8-meter Kayoola EVS buses to the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja. This latest batch, produced at Luweero Industries Limited in Nakasongola, increases Uganda's total stock of electric buses to fifteen, showcasing Kiira Motors' commitment to advancing electric mass transit solutions tailored for the African market.
A Leap Forward in Sustainable Transit
The 2024 8-Meter Kayoola EVS, a fully electric city bus, is designed to meet the evolving demands of urban transportation. With a nominal range of 200 kilometers on a full charge and a capacity of 56 passengers, the Kayoola EVS represents a robust and eco-friendly transit option. It joins Kiira Motors' diverse portfolio of state-of-the-art, Ugandan-made buses, underscoring the company’s innovation and dedication to quality.
Unmatched Features and Comfort
Built with the utmost attention to comfort and convenience, the Kayoola EVS is equipped with modern amenities such as infotainment systems, CCTV cameras, E-Ticketing and Cashless Payment Systems, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, and inclusive design features for the elderly and persons with disabilities. The bus also boasts high safety standards, ensuring a secure travel experience for all passengers.
A Historic Journey
The delivery convoy of the eight buses made a notable impact as it traveled from Luweero to Jinja, navigating through traffic from Kawempe, across the Northern Bypass, with a brief stopover at the Kisaasi roundabout, and then proceeding to Bweyogerere before reaching its final destination. This 236-kilometer journey not only demonstrated the buses' capabilities but also drew public attention and enthusiasm.

Hon. Prof. Sandy Stevens Tickodri-Togboa, Executive Chairman of Kiira Motors, expressed pride in the company's progress, stating, "Uganda’s push towards becoming a net source of e-Mobility Solutions in Africa is steadily getting closer, and we are proud to be contributing to this agenda. This progress has been made possible by the strategic partnership we have fostered with the National Enterprise Corporation and its Luweero Industries Limited subsidiary."
Prof. Tickodri-Togboa highlighted the importance of sustainable transit in improving urban air quality, particularly in Kampala, where air pollution levels are significantly higher than the World Health Organisation’s recommended limits. He called on both public and private sector players to embrace environmentally sustainable mass transit solutions, like those offered by Kiira Motors.
Building the Future of E-Mobility
Eng. Ian John Kavuma, Quality Inspection and Testing Manager at Kiira Motors, emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Uganda. "We are in the process of onboarding several partners to establish a robust charging network across the country, in line with the National E-Mobility Strategy, for a seamless electric vehicle ownership experience," he said. Kiira Motors offers fast-charging options ranging from 60kW to 360kW, ensuring efficient and convenient charging solutions for its customers.
Diverse Offerings for Varied Needs
The 2024 Kayoola EVS lineup includes various models to cater to different passenger capacities: the 18-meter EV with a capacity of 120 passengers, the 12-meter EVS with 90 passengers, the 10-meter EVS with 70 passengers, the 8-meter EVS with 56 passengers, and the 6-meter EVS with 20 passengers. This versatility positions Kiira Motors as a key player in addressing diverse urban transit needs.
