Kitara FC Triumphs in Stanbic Uganda Cup, Marking a Historic Milestone

Wankulukuku, May 26, 2024 – In a momentous finale to the 2023/24 football season, Kitara Football Club clinched their first-ever Stanbic Uganda Cup title with a narrow but decisive 1-0 victory over NEC FC at the Mutesa II Stadium. The winning goal, scored by substitute Solomon Okwalinga in the 74th minute, was a culmination of strategic play and sheer determination, securing Kitara FC a cherished spot in the annals of Ugandan football history.

The match, attended by a fervent crowd of football enthusiasts, showcased the resilience and competitive spirit of both teams. Kitara FC, hailing from the Bunyoro region, demonstrated tactical prowess throughout the game. Despite several goal-scoring opportunities, both NEC’s Cromwell Rwothomio and Kitara’s Denis Omedi were thwarted in their attempts to score, with NEC’s Rwothomio being denied by Kitara’s steadfast goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba on multiple occasions.

The turning point came in the 74th minute when Solomon Okwalinga, coming off the bench, seized a critical opportunity to net the decisive goal. His timely intervention not only led to Kitara's victory but also ignited jubilant celebrations among the team and their supporters. Kitara’s defense, robust and unyielding, successfully fended off NEC’s attempts to equalize, ensuring the Royals' triumph.
