Kitara Football Club is set to host NEC FC at their newly inaugurated stadium, The Royal Park – Butema, this Thursday, 19th September 2024, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. This is the third time NEC FC will visit Kitara on their home turf, having previously played at Kigaya Primary School Grounds during the FUFA Big League and Masindi Stadium during their inaugural StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) season. With both teams coming off strong starts to the season, this match is highly anticipated by fans and pundits alike.
Kitara FC kicked off their UPL campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Lugazi FC. Displaying dominance throughout the match, Kitara’s attacking prowess was evident as they outclassed their opponents, marking a continuation of their impressive form from last season. The new stadium at The Royal Park – Butema will be an additional boost to Kitara FC, as they aim to build on their winning momentum against NEC FC.
NEC FC, known as the Diehards, started their second UPL season with an equally impressive 3-1 win over Vipers SC, a six-time league champion. The victory sent shockwaves across the league, signaling NEC FC’s intent to challenge the top teams this season. Muzamiru Mutyaba, a recent addition to the squad, opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a fine finish, set up by an exquisite pass from Ssebaggala Enock. Though Vipers managed to level the score before halftime, NEC FC’s tactical adjustments by head coach Mbalangu paid off in the second half.
Mbalangu’s decision to bring on Paul Mucureezi and Cromwell Rwothomio in the second half proved to be a masterstroke. Both substitutes scored within minutes of each other, with Cromwell pouncing on a loose ball after a save, and Mucureezi showcasing his intelligence to outmaneuver the Vipers defense and slot the ball into the net. The win not only secured NEC FC’s first three points of the season but also ended a four-match winless streak, giving the Diehards much-needed confidence ahead of their trip to Butema.
Both Kitara FC and NEC FC boast impressive squad depth, which will be key in this fixture. Kitara FC, led by head coach Richard Makumbi, has assembled a team brimming with talent, eager to make The Royal Park – Butema a fortress. On the other hand, NEC FC head coach Mbalangu has showcased his tactical acumen, making key adjustments to resolve early-game issues and secure victories.
NEC FC’s squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging stars. Muzamiru Mutyaba and Paul Mucureezi, two key signings, have already made an impact by scoring in the season opener. Meanwhile, other debutants, including Ssebwalunyo, who made crucial saves, as well as Niwamanya and Jarieko, have shown promise. This depth and balance between youth and experience make NEC FC a formidable opponent.
With both teams in fine form and hungry for success, Thursday’s match is set to be an exhilarating contest. Kitara FC will aim to capitalize on their home advantage at their state-of-the-art stadium, while NEC FC will look to build on their opening victory and continue their resurgence. The game will be a tactical battle between two astute coaches, each determined to outwit the other.
The match will be broadcast live on FUFA TV with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM (1600 hours). Fans can expect a high-tempo game filled with technical skill, strategic plays, and perhaps a few surprises. Given the caliber of players on both sides, this fixture could be one of the standout games of the season.
As NEC FC travels to Butema – Hoima, they will be fully focused on securing another positive result to keep their early momentum going. Kitara FC, on the other hand, will be determined to defend their home turf and solidify their position at the top of the table.
The clash between Kitara FC and NEC FC promises to be a tightly contested affair with both teams eager to assert their dominance in the early stages of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. With strong squads, tactical brilliance, and a hunger for victory, this match is one that fans won’t want to miss.
