NEC FC will aim to reclaim top spot in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League when they host bottom-placed Soltilo Bright Stars FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 7:00 PM. The clash under the floodlights promises to be an intriguing encounter as NEC looks to capitalize on their home advantage while Soltilo Bright Stars hope to reverse their poor form.

Last season's two Premier League meetings between these sides ended in stalemates. A goalless draw was played out at Lugogo, while the reverse fixture in Kavumba ended 1-1. NEC FC will be looking to go one better this time around, especially as they battle for the top spot in the league standings.
*NEC FC: Aiming for the Summit*
NEC FC enters the match in 2nd place with 23 points, just behind league leaders Vipers SC. The team has been in good form this season, winning seven matches, drawing two, and losing two. They have scored 15 goals and conceded eight, showcasing a balanced attack and defense.
However, NEC will be without key players Enock Ssebagala and James Jarieko, who are suspended due to accumulating three bookings. This will force head coach Hussein Mbalangu to tweak his lineup. Fortunately, the team welcomes back defenders David Bayiga and Gideon Odong, who missed last week’s 1-1 draw against URA FC.
Mbalangu is cautious but optimistic ahead of the match.
"We should not underestimate our opponents because they are at the bottom of the league. Try to score early so that we avoid being embarrassed in this home fixture," he told his players.
NEC’s attack will be spearheaded by Rwothomio Cromwel, who will link up with the experienced Paul Mucureezi in a bid to unlock Bright Stars' defense.
It has been a tough season for Bright Stars, who are currently last on the table with just six points from 11 games. Their record stands at one win, three draws, and seven losses. The team has scored six goals and conceded 12, reflecting their struggles at both ends of the pitch.
Head coach Ian Mutenda will be hoping for a turnaround as his side comes into this game winless in their last three matches. Much will depend on skipper Nelson Ssenkatuka, who leads the attack. The visitors will need to be lethal up front while tightening their defense to stand a chance against a strong NEC side.

Key Players to Watch
Rwothomio Cromwel (NEC FC): The forward will be critical in breaking down Bright Stars' defense and finding the back of the net.

Paul Mucureezi (NEC FC): His experience and creativity will be pivotal in providing opportunities for his teammates.

Great NEC FC 1-0 result against Soltilo Bright Stars that guides them back to the top of the Uganda Premier League standings after 12 games. 18 games to go to end the season
