The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. Rose Namayanja, recently outlined the remarkable achievements of the ruling party in implementing its 2021-2026 manifesto. Speaking at a media briefing on the sidelines of the Office of the President Auditorium in Kampala, Namayanja emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people of Uganda. She highlighted significant strides made across various sectors, reaffirming the NRM’s mission of ensuring peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation.
*Key Achievements*
1. Infrastructure Development
Namayanja lauded the government’s efforts in expanding and modernizing Uganda’s infrastructure. She noted the construction of major roads and bridges that have improved connectivity and facilitated trade within and beyond Uganda’s borders. Projects such as the Kampala Flyover, the Oil Roads in the Albertine region, and ongoing works on the Jinja Expressway were highlighted as critical to boosting the economy.
“The NRM government understands that infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth. These investments have not only eased transportation but also attracted investors,” Namayanja remarked.
2. Energy Expansion
The NRM manifesto underscored the need to enhance access to affordable and reliable electricity. According to Namayanja, the government has significantly increased electricity generation capacity, citing projects such as the Karuma Hydropower Plant and the extension of the national grid to rural areas.
“These efforts are directly impacting the lives of ordinary Ugandans, enabling small businesses to thrive and creating jobs,” she said.
3. Agriculture and Industrialization
Namayanja praised the NRM’s prioritization of agriculture, which employs the majority of Ugandans. Initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) have empowered farmers with inputs, training, and access to markets.
She also acknowledged the government’s efforts to promote industrialization through initiatives like the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) and the establishment of industrial parks in Namanve, Mbale, and Gulu.
“Our focus on value addition has enhanced the export potential of Uganda’s agricultural products, contributing to economic diversification,” she added.
4. Health and Education
In the health sector, Namayanja highlighted the expansion of health infrastructure and services, including the construction of regional referral hospitals and the recruitment of medical personnel. She noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had tested Uganda’s healthcare system but commended the government for its resilience and innovations, such as the local production of vaccines.
In education, Namayanja pointed to increased funding for universal education programs and the rollout of digital learning solutions to address challenges posed by the pandemic.
5. Security and Governance
The Deputy Secretary General reaffirmed NRM’s commitment to maintaining peace and security. She highlighted the success of operations against armed insurgencies and the enhancement of border security, which have ensured stability for economic growth. On governance, she praised the rollout of the Digital Monitoring System for service delivery, ensuring transparency and accountability.
*Challenges and the Way Forward*
Namayanja acknowledged that while much has been achieved, challenges remain, including unemployment, climate change, and the high cost of living. She called for a collective effort to address these issues, emphasizing the NRM's focus on sustainable solutions.
“We are not resting on our laurels. The challenges ahead require innovation, resilience, and unity. The NRM is committed to finding solutions that uplift every Ugandan,” she stressed.
Hon. Rose Namayanja’s overview of the NRM’s achievements paints a picture of a government that is steadily delivering on its promises. From infrastructure and energy to health and education, the NRM has demonstrated a commitment to transforming Uganda into a middle-income country. As the party continues to implement its 2021-2026 manifesto, Namayanja assured Ugandans that the NRM will remain focused on building a united and prosperous nation.
"The NRM manifesto is not just a document; it is a promise to the people. Together, we shall achieve our vision for Uganda," she concluded.
