NRM Launches Countrywide Digitalisation of Membership Register

*By John Kusolo*

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) today launched the digitalisation of its membership register in a move aimed at enhancing transparency and credibility ahead of the 2026 general elections. The exercise was officially commissioned by the NRM 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, during a training session for data centre supervisors held at the Party National Secretariat, located at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero.

Al-Hajji Kigongo’s Call for Integrity

In his address, Al-Hajji Kigongo emphasized the importance of conducting a credible exercise. He appealed to the trainees to adhere strictly to their roles, cautioning them against any unethical practices, such as soliciting bribes to make irregular entries.

“The party will bank on your work to ensure we get a clean and credible membership and voters’ register,” he stated.

Al-Hajji Kigongo underscored that the success of this digitalisation exercise will play a critical role in strengthening the party’s democratic processes, ensuring free and fair internal elections.

*Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong’s Commitment to Credibility*

The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, outlined the scope and significance of the exercise. He noted that the activity involves cleaning the register of deceased members, those who have relocated, or individuals who have joined other political parties. At the same time, it will accommodate new members joining the NRM.

“I implore you to take this exercise very seriously. It requires due diligence to ensure that eligible members are not left out,” Todwong said, emphasizing the need for accuracy and commitment from the dispatched teams, who will work extended hours to achieve this goal.

*Importance of the Updated Register*

Hajjat Medina Naham, the Director of Finance and Administration, highlighted the critical role the updated register will play in the party’s upcoming internal elections.

“An updated register will save us from the chaos and bickering of party members during our primaries, which previously were witnessed in some isolated areas,” she noted.

The exercise is seen as a significant step in eliminating discrepancies and ensuring that the NRM operates on a solid foundation of fairness and transparency during the primaries.

*Launch Ceremony and Participation*

The launch event was graced by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) and other top officials from the NRM Secretariat. During the training session, participants were equipped with the necessary tools and guidelines to carry out the digitalisation process effectively across all designated centres.

*Preparing for 2026*

The digitalisation of the NRM membership register marks a milestone in the party's preparation for the 2026 general elections. By leveraging technology, the NRM aims to ensure a more efficient and accurate system that reflects the true status of its membership.

With the leadership of Al-Hajji Kigongo and Rt. Hon. Todwong, and the dedication of the teams involved, the exercise promises to bolster the NRM’s democratic principles and reaffirm its commitment to serving its members and the nation.

The digitalisation initiative aligns with the broader goals of fostering accountability and strengthening internal party mechanisms, paving the way for a smooth electoral process in the coming years.
