NRM National Treasurer Amb. Barbara Nekesa Urges Youth to Join the Ruling Party, Advocates Against Land Fragmentation in Luuka District

Luuka District, Uganda – In a spirited appeal to the youth, the National Treasurer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Ambassador Barbara Nekesa, called upon young Ugandans to embrace the ruling party, highlighting its key role in ensuring the stability and prosperity of the country. Nekesa made these remarks during the third-anniversary coronation of the Baise Matende Clan Leader, where she was the guest of honor.

Addressing a large crowd gathered to celebrate the milestone, Nekesa emphasized that the NRM is a party that accommodates all Ugandans, regardless of age. She sought to dispel the common misconception that the NRM is primarily an organization for the older generation, urging the youth not to fall victim to such manipulation.

*Youth Opportunities in the NRM*

Drawing from her own experience, Amb. Nekesa highlighted how her political career flourished within the structures of the NRM, citing her positions as a former Member of Parliament, Minister, Ambassador, and now the party's National Treasurer.

“I have served in many capacities as an MP, Minister, Ambassador, and National Treasurer, yet all this happened while I am still in my youthful age. This is a testimony that the ruling NRM offers everyone an opportunity to flourish,” Nekesa remarked. Her message served as an encouragement to young people to engage in the NRM, stating that the party provides a platform for anyone willing to work towards the betterment of Uganda.

*A Call to Preserve Family Land for Production*

In addition to her call for youth participation in politics, Amb. Nekesa turned her attention to land use, addressing a crucial issue facing many rural communities: land fragmentation. She cautioned against the practice of dividing family land into smaller pieces, a tradition that has led to decreased productivity and entrenched poverty among families.

“It is wrong to divide family land into small pieces because the practice discourages meaningful production to the family members, hence leading to poverty,” Nekesa advised. She commended the people of Luuka District for their efforts in engaging in production activities and encouraged them to focus on sustainable land use practices that would benefit future generations.

*Commendation for President Museveni's Leadership*

Amb. Nekesa also took time to appreciate the residents of Luuka for their continued support of President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government over the years. She urged them to rally behind the President in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the progress and stability that Uganda has enjoyed under his leadership.

"I appeal to you to give him overwhelming support in the next election," she said, underscoring the critical role of grassroots support in the success of the NRM.

*Commitment to Baise Matende Clan and Local Development*

As a show of support for the local community, Amb. Nekesa made a generous financial contribution towards the development of the Baise Matende Clan and the community’s church. She donated UGX 5 million to the clan's development initiatives and an additional UGX 2 million to the local church, further cementing her commitment to uplifting the community.

In her closing remarks, the NRM National Treasurer assured the Baise Matende Clan Leader that she would personally ensure the requests made to President Museveni are expedited. This commitment resonated well with the local leaders and the gathered community, who have high hopes for continued government support in their development efforts.

Amb. Nekesa’s visit to Luuka District underscores the NRM’s commitment to engaging with Ugandans at the grassroots level, listening to their concerns, and fostering a spirit of inclusivity and development for all. Her message of unity, youth empowerment, and sustainable land management struck a chord with the residents, further strengthening the NRM’s presence in the region.

As the 2026 elections draw closer, Ambassador Nekesa’s message of hope, stability, and prosperity, anchored in the NRM’s values, is expected to resonate with many young Ugandans. By advocating for youth involvement, sustainable land use, and continued support for President Museveni’s leadership, Nekesa is rallying Ugandans to work towards a future of shared growth and success under the ruling party.

Her contribution to the Baise Matende Clan and the local church not only highlights her dedication to local development but also reinforces the NRM’s ongoing efforts to empower communities across the country.
