President Museveni Reaffirms NRM's Commitment to Uganda's Socio- Economic Transformation

Gomba, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his government's dedication to the socio-economic transformation of Uganda, citing consistent efforts to uplift the standards of living for all citizens since he assumed office in 1986. During a meeting held with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus, led by Government Chief Whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, at his Kisozi farm in Gomba District, the President highlighted the essential components driving this mission: universal access to education and wealth creation initiatives.

In his address to the gathering, which also included prominent local wealth creators, President Museveni emphasized that Uganda is endowed with abundant natural resources. However, he noted that for years, the population had limited knowledge on how to leverage these resources for a modern and prosperous way of life.

“A country like Uganda is very rich, it has a lot of natural resources, but the population did not know how to use the resources to live in a good way—the modern way,” President Museveni stated. “This is why we have been advising them that they need to move on two fronts. Number one, free education for all, and number two, prosperity and wealth creation for all.”

The President underscored that education and wealth creation are the cornerstones of national development. He highlighted how access to free education has enabled Ugandans from diverse backgrounds to gain essential skills and knowledge, empowering them to improve their livelihoods. The President’s remarks reflected the government’s resolve to continue expanding educational opportunities to reach every child in Uganda.

On the second front, wealth creation, Museveni pointed out the various programs his government has introduced over the years to foster self-sufficiency among Ugandans. By encouraging citizens to participate in income-generating activities, the government aims to reduce dependency and enhance community prosperity. Initiatives like Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) were referenced as pivotal in facilitating agricultural transformation and improving rural livelihoods.

The meeting at Kisozi farm provided an opportunity for direct engagement between President Museveni, the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, and wealth creators from Gomba District. Local entrepreneurs and agricultural innovators shared insights into their activities, which have positively impacted their communities. This interaction enabled the President to hear first-hand accounts of the socio-economic challenges faced by the people and how government support has helped them achieve self-sustainability.

Hon. Denis Hamson Obua commended the President for his unwavering commitment to economic growth and poverty alleviation. He urged fellow Members of Parliament to support government programs that promote socio-economic empowerment, emphasizing the need for legislators to work closely with communities to achieve lasting transformation.

Reflecting on Uganda’s natural resource wealth, President Museveni emphasized that responsible resource management is essential for sustainable development. Uganda’s vast agricultural potential, mineral wealth, and favorable climate provide a solid foundation for economic growth, but he cautioned against exploitation that would compromise future generations.

Museveni urged Ugandans to adopt modern agricultural practices and diversify income sources. He particularly encouraged youth involvement in agriculture and small-scale industries, noting that these sectors offer significant opportunities for growth if strategically harnessed.

NRM’s Continued Focus on Development

Since assuming leadership in 1986, President Museveni has prioritized economic recovery and national security, providing the foundation for the socio-economic programs that have since followed. Through the NRM’s policies, significant strides have been made in infrastructure development, healthcare access, and the establishment of social safety nets. The President's remarks at the Kisozi meeting reflected an ongoing commitment to consolidating these gains.

As the country moves toward a new phase of economic and social development, the NRM Parliamentary Caucus pledged to rally behind the President’s vision. They agreed to strengthen community-level engagement and ensure that citizens benefit from government programs. Additionally, the caucus promised to advocate for legislation and policies that support education, employment, and industrialization as part of Uganda's Vision 2040.

President Museveni’s vision of a transformed Uganda involves achieving middle-income status through empowerment at the grassroots level. His call for free education and wealth creation as twin pillars of development aligns with this goal, aiming to elevate the standard of living across the nation.

As the NRM Parliamentary Caucus and local leaders continue to engage with citizens, the commitment to achieving socio-economic transformation remains unwavering. The President’s focus on education, wealth creation, and responsible resource management is central to Uganda’s future. With these efforts, the NRM government hopes to build a self-reliant, prosperous Uganda that meets the needs of its people while safeguarding resources for future generations.
