Buganda Leaders Reaffirm Support for Kabaka: The Kabaka is not Critically Ill, Needs Time to Rest and Recover, According to the Meeting Between the Katikkiro, the Olulyo Olulangira, and the Executive Committee of the Abataka Council***
By John Kusolo
Today, on June 18, 2024, there was an important meeting at Bulange in Mengo between the Katikkiro of Buganda, His Excellency Charles Peter Mayiga, and the ministers, Prince David Kintu Wassajja, and the Executive Committee of the Abataka Council.
This meeting was convened to address the critical matter concerning the health condition of the Ssabasajja Kabaka in recent times.
In recent years, the Ssabasajja has been experiencing health issues which have occasionally disrupted his daily duties.
During these years, the Ssabasajja has been receiving medical treatment from doctors both within Uganda and from abroad.
Specialist doctors from Germany who examined him in March 2024 confirmed that the Ssabasajja has a manageable health condition, which has greatly improved, enabling him to continue performing his duties effectively.
These doctors advised the Ssabasajja to continue working with his medical team both locally and in Namibia to ensure his health remains stable.
It was previously mentioned that he would take a rest upon arrival there after undergoing treatment.
The King (Ssabasajja) had traveled from Europe to go to Namibia. It is noted that in the previous month, the Prime Minister (Katikkiro) informed the people of Buganda that the King had gone abroad for medical treatment. Currently, it is understood that the King is still in Namibia under the care of experts.
It is important to emphasize that the King is not critically ill. He only needs time to rest and recover under the supervision of his doctors to regain full strength.
As we continue our prayers, we must remind the people of Buganda about the importance of the King’s health. The King’s health concerns should be handled with utmost care and respect.
Reports about the King’s health should be communicated by the Prime Minister’s office. We should remember that the King is like a father to everyone, and his health should not be taken lightly. News about his health should not be exaggerated or treated in a way that disrespects the dignity of the monarchy or disturbs public order.
The Prime Minister (Katikkiro); the Speaker (Ab’Olulyo Olulangira); and the Clan Heads (Abataka Ab’Obusolya) would like to thank everyone who has shown exemplary conduct during this period. They encourage the people of Buganda to remain calm and avoid spreading false information that could cause unnecessary fear or division among the populace.
The King will return to his homeland once he has fully recovered.
On June 18, 2024, key leaders of the Buganda Kingdom gathered to express their unwavering support and allegiance to the Kabaka, the King of Buganda. This declaration was formalized in a document signed by prominent figures, including the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga, Omutaka (Chief) Namwama Augustine Kizito Mutumba, Omukubiriza w’Olukiiko lw’Abataka, and Omulangira David Kintu Wassajja ku lw'Olulyo Olulangira.
Now, let us all be grateful and extend our support to the Kabaka, praying that God grants him even greater strength. Let us continue to protect, uphold, and preserve the unity and spirit of Buganda unwaveringly.
This public declaration serves as a testament to the enduring reverence and support for the Kabaka's leadership within the Buganda Kingdom. It highlights the dedication of Buganda's leaders to the unity and cultural heritage of their people, ensuring that the values and traditions of Buganda remain steadfast under the Kabaka's reign.
This unity among the leaders and their collective pledge is a crucial element in maintaining the stability and prosperity of the Kingdom.
By coming together in this manner, the leaders of Buganda not only honor their King but also set an example of solidarity and dedication for all subjects of the Kingdom. The continued support for the Kabaka is a cornerstone of Buganda's identity and heritage, and this declaration reaffirms that commitment.
Long Live the King!
