Entebbe*

Uganda Airlines is pleased to announce the expansion of its services with the launch of direct flights to Abuja, Nigeria’s administrative capital. The new route is scheduled to commence on September 12, 2024, a significant development that follows the airline's successful launch of flights to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, just a year ago.

The inaugural flight UR 900 from Entebbe departed at 16:00 hours, arriving at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 18:15 the same day. This service will be offered twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, utilizing Uganda Airlines' flagship Airbus A330-800neo aircraft. These flights to Abuja are linked to the existing Lagos service, enabling broader access for travelers within Nigeria.

Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, expressed her excitement about this latest expansion, stating, “We are proud to be living up to our promise to take Nigeria to Uganda and bring Uganda to Nigeria. Abuja is now our 14th destination as we continue with our strategic expansion plan.” She emphasized that Uganda Airlines remains committed to providing affordable and efficient air travel across Africa, fostering stronger business, tourism, and leisure ties.

The new flights to Abuja are particularly noteworthy, as the city is recognized as one of Africa’s most underserved markets. This new service aims to address the existing connectivity gap between Nigeria’s central regions and East Africa. Travelers from Abuja and its surrounding areas will now be able to connect seamlessly to Uganda Airlines' services to major cities such as Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Mogadishu, Mumbai, and Dubai.

*Uganda Airlines: A Growing Regional Force*

Since its relaunch in 2019, Uganda Airlines has quickly grown into a significant player in East Africa’s aviation industry. The airline offers scheduled passenger and cargo services, and has been recognized for maintaining the world's youngest fleet of aircraft from 2020 through 2024 by Ch-Aviation. The carrier operates flights to key destinations within East Africa and select international markets, aiming to improve regional connectivity and facilitate both business and leisure travel.

With the addition of Abuja, Uganda Airlines continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding its network across Africa, bringing both Uganda and Nigeria closer together. The airline looks forward to offering an enhanced travel experience for passengers, with opportunities for further connections to multiple destinations across the globe.
