Asumin Nasike Officially Takes Over as RCC, Mbale City
By John Kusolo
Mbale, Uganda – In a significant administrative shift, Asumin Nasike has officially assumed the role of acting Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Mbale City, succeeding Mr. Rex Achilla. This transition comes amidst a backdrop of controversy, as Achilla was recently suspended to facilitate investigations into the illegal demolition of a building on Palisa Road in Mbale City.
In her inaugural address to the media, Nasike outlined her dual responsibilities, emphasizing that she will be serving both as the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Mbale District and the RCC for Mbale City. Her appointment marks a pivotal moment for the city, with Nasike pledging to address several pressing issues, including increasing insecurity and underutilization of government programs.
"We want to handle the increasing insecurity in the city. I want to enhance and make sure that our people live well, stay well, and move any time they wish. That is one of the core responsibilities of the government – to ensure that people are stable and peaceful," Nasike stated.
Nasike’s tenure begins at a crucial time for Mbale City, where security concerns have been mounting. She stressed the importance of teamwork among local authorities and citizens to foster a safer and more harmonious environment.
Additionally, Nasike highlighted the need for more effective dissemination of information and benefits from government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP). These initiatives are designed to uplift various segments of the population, but many residents of Mbale City have yet to reap their benefits.
"We are going to make sure that everyone who is supposed to benefit from government programs gets their money," Nasike affirmed, signaling a commitment to inclusivity and equitable distribution of resources.
She also called on the local government to be proactive in addressing issues related to land grabbing, corruption, and poor service delivery. Nasike urged transparency and accountability as fundamental principles to improve overall performance and governance in Mbale City.
As the new RCC, Nasike's leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed vigor to the administration of Mbale City. Her focus on security, social welfare, and anti-corruption measures aligns with the broader objectives of fostering development and stability in the region.
The coming months will be crucial for Nasike and her team as they work to implement these priorities and build trust among the residents of Mbale City. The community looks forward to seeing tangible improvements under her stewardship, hoping for a period marked by peace, progress, and prosperity.
